Lasers no match for Pirates
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team used some three-set magic to pull off Thursday's 8-1 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Irvine Valley.
Among the six singles matches, five went into a third-and-final set and the Pirates posted wins in four of them.
Leading the way was Krystal Hernandez, who won, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, while Nicole Pham (2-6, 6-0, 6-0), Remi Sutton (4-6, 6-2, 6-0) and Claire Crossman (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) each rallied from an opening-set loss.
Nory Call made things much easier on herself, losing only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3.
In doubles, it was much smoother sailing as Hernandez and Madelyn Koehly (8-3), Hernandez/Call (8-0) and Sutton/Pham (8-2) cruised to victories for the Pirates (9-4, 7-2 in Orange Empire Conference).
OCC will return to action on Tuesday at Cypress College, beginning at 2 p.m.
