Pirates regroup, sweep away Dons in three
COSTA MESA -- Five days after their tough five-set loss at Irvine Valley, the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team returned to the "win" column with a straight-set win over visiting Santa Ana on Wednesday night.
With the stats spread around throughout the Coast lineup, the No. 3 Pirates improved to 17-1 overall, 11-1 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 25-11, 25-11, 25-10 win.
Hayley Martin led Coast with five kills, while Isabel Emrich, Angela Johnson and Leslie Stiner each provided four.
For the Dons (2-17, 0-12), Briana Boyle led the way with four kills.
With the win, Orange Coast remains in a first-place tie with Golden West (17-3, 11-1) in the Orange Empire Conference. The Rustlers took on Cypress on Wednesday night at Cypress College and swept the Chargers, 25-17, 25-22, 25-15.
With two matches remaining, the OEC title is still in the hands of the Pirates, who finish the regular season with crucial back-to-back home matches with Cypress on Friday (7 p.m.) and Golden West on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
