Pirates stunned by Lasers in five

IRVINE -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team saw its season-long winning streak come to an end on Friday night to Irvine Valley College in five games.

Karlee Riggs led the Pirates with 32 kills and 19 digs, but it wasn't enough as the Lasers earned the marathon win, 19-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-17, 15-13.

Dana Nicholson added seven kills and 18 digs for second-ranked Orange Coast (16-1, 10-1 in Orange Empire Conference). Libero Andi Frisina led the defense with 27 digs, while setter Allison Lumsden dished out 51 assists.

The Pirates' offense sputtered throughout the night, finishing with a .225 attack percentage with 20 hitting errors.

Allison Cook led the Lasers (11-5, 5-5) with 26 kills, while Lauren Bender added 14 kills and Avae Masaniai added 12.

Beckie Moodie notched 24 digs for the Lasers, while setter Danielle Boyette contributed 57 assists.

The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at home against Santa Ana, beginning at 7 p.m.
