Coast preps for playoffs with sweep over Comets

SAN MARCOS -- The hitting percentages were off the charts for the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team during Friday night's three-game sweep over Palomar College in both teams' Pacific Coast Conference finale.

Dillon Emery led the conference-champion Pirates (14-4 overall, 11-1 in PCC) with 18 kills on just 23 attempts for an eye-popping .696 hitting percentage. Chris Van Vuuren added 11 kills as the Pirates slugged their way to a .500 hitting percentage as a team.

Michael Ensign dished out 38 assists and led the team with seven digs, while libero Victor Schaefer added six digs.

By clinching the PCC, the Pirates have earned a trip to the CCCAA Men's Volleyball State Final Four, where they will play the winner of the Grossmont/El Camino match on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Long Beach City College. The state finals will take place on Saturday at 7 p.m., also at LBCC.
