Pirates swept by visiting Brahmas

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's volleyball received an early-season wake-up call as the visiting L.A. Pierce Brahmas came into the Peterson Gym and stormed past the Pirates in a three-game sweep, 25-23, 25-17, 25-16.
 
L.A. Pierce (1-0) showed more speed, aggression and execution during Friday's nonconference matchup and made quick work of the Pirates (1-1). Brahma hitters Ryan Musick led LAPC with 10 kills, while Ian Zavala added nine.
 
For the Pirates, Dillon Emery was the lone player with any offensive success and finished with 10 kills. Libero Victor Schaefer came up with nine digs, while teammate Michael Ensign dished out 19 assists.
 
The Pirates will look regain their winning form on Thursday at El Camino College, beginning at 6 p.m. OCC's next home match will be on Wednesday, Feb. 16 against Moorpark, also at 6 p.m.
