Pirates come up short against Saddleback
MISSION VIEJO -- The starting five for the Saddleback College Gauchos came up big on Wednesday night, scoring 58 points en route to a 60-48 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Orange Coast College.
Shala Kirkpatrick, MVP of the 2011 Coast Christmas Classic, led the Gauchos (17-4, 3-2 in OEC) with 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Shalae Edwards added 16 points and eight rebounds.
For the Pirates (9-12, 1-3), Megan Hanson led the offense with 12 points, while Yesenia Maldonado added 10 points and four rebounds.
OCC struggled from three-point range, hitting just 2 of 12 opportunites (16.7 percent). For the game, Coast shot 19-of-52 from the floor (36.5 percent).
Coast will return to action on Friday night at home against Riverside College, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
