Pirates struggle against Chargers
CYPRESS -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team dropped to 10-13 overall, 2-4 in Orange Empire Conference play with a 60-54 road loss against Cypress College on Wednesday night.
Ashley Engeln led the Pirates with 17 points, while Jenna Arnett added 12 points and Megan Hanson added 10.
It was a rough not for the OCC bench as the reserves totaled just 13 points on 4-of-16 shooting (25 percent).
Meanwhile, the Chargers (15-8, 5-1) picked up 37 points off of the bench and were led by reserve Samanatha Soria, who scored 13 points. Sloan Turner added nine points and nine rebounds, while Tera Salhus added eight points.
The Pirates will open up the second round of conference play on Friday at home against Fullerton College, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
