Coast goes 2-1 at Santa Ana tourney
SANTA ANA -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team won two-of-three over the weekend, finishing in third place at the Santa Ana College Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Pirates (3-2) opened things on Friday with a 64-60 win over Mt. San Jacinto. In the win, Megan Hanson found the hot hand from beyond the arc, hitting five 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 15 points and five assists. Jenna Arnett added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Michelle Angel contributed 11 points and five boards.
On Saturday, it was a much different story as the Pirates fell to Orange Empire Conference neighbor Riverside College, 79-55. Coast shot an icy 23.2 percent from the field (17-of-73) and hit just 7-of-34 from 3-point range (20.5 percent). Leading scorers for OCC included Nisma Ali (10 points) and Ashley Engeln (nine points).
On Sunday, Hanson's 18 points once again led the way as the Pirates slipped past MiraCosta, 68-64 in the third-place game. Tessie Pikula added 13 points, while Jordyn Terukina added nine points.
Tournament action continues for the Pirates as they travel to Cuesta College this weekend. They will open tourney action on Thursday against L.A. Pierce, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
