Sanchez nets four as Pirates double-up Lasers, 4-2

IRVINE -- Chantelle Sanchez found the back of the goal a LOT for the Orange Coast College women's soccer team, scoring all four goals in a 4-2 Orange Empire Conference win over Irvine Valley College on Friday at IVC.

Sanchez, a freshman midfielder out of Fountain Valley High School, scored goals Nos. 13-14-15-16 for the season, passing teammate Olivia Hostetler (14 goals) for the team lead as well as OEC lead in goals for the season. The Pirate duo are also tied for the conference lead in assists with 10 each, while Sanchez holds a four-point edge over Hostetler in points, 42-38, with IVC's Kuuipo Laumatia (28 points) in third place.

Laumatia scored both goals for the Lasers, but it wasn't enough to overcome Sanchez's stellar performance. Hostetler assisted on two of her goals, while Alexis Lastra and Jocelyn Culp assisted in the other two Sanchez tallies.

After a 1-1 first half, Coast (11-3-2, 5-1-2 in the OEC) came out with a pair of goals over an eight-minute span to grab a 3-1 lead after 70 minutes of play. Laumatia's second goal of the day for IVC (8-6, 2-5) came in the 73rd minute, trimming OCC advantage to 3-2.

But a fourth goal by Sanchez put the icing on the cake for the Pirates, who have now gone unbeaten in their last six contests (4-0-2).

OCC's Samantha Ortega had two saves in goal, while IVC's Joanna Valdez notched six saves.

The Pirates will return to the OCC Soccer Complex on Tuesday against Santiago Canyon, beginning at 3 p.m.
