Sanchez's hat trick propels Pirates past Eagles, 4-2

COSTA MESA -- Three matches inside of LeBard Stadium ... three hat tricks for members of the OCC women's soccer team. This time, Chantelle Sanchez got in on the fun with a three-goal, one-assist night as the Pirates doubled-up visiting Mt. San Jacinto, 4-2, on Tuesday night.

Olivia Hostetler -- owner of the other two hat tricks this year inside the fabled OCC football stadium -- had a goal and an assist for Coast (3-2). MSJC goals were turned in by Jalyssa Arias and Jazelle Dominguez as the Eagles drop to 2-3-1.

After both teams got things going, it was Hostetler, who took a cross pass from Sanchez, used her head to find the back of the net in the 18th minute, putting OCC up, 1-0.

Another cross-field pass -- this time off the foot of Maddie Valdez -- found the noggin of Sanchez, who buried her opportunity and gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute.

Less than 10 minutes later, a cluster of bodies came together near the MSJC goal and it was Sanchez to came out with the ball and the freshman scored her second goal of the night in the 31st minute and the match was in OCC's control, right up until the final minutes of the first half.

There, Dominguez picked up a late goal for the Eagles, trimming the deficit to 3-1 at the half.

MSJC came out strong in the second half, but the held them off of the scoresheet in the early goings. Then, in the 65th minute, a defensive misplay by the Eagles turned into another scoring opportunity for Sanchez and the Pirates as she again found the back of the net for her third goal of the night and a 4-1 OCC advantage.

Less than four minutes later, after an MSJC free kick clanged off of the crossbar, the Eagles scored off an Arias goal to make it 4-2. But that would be it as OCC goalkeeper Layla Cash held down the fort for the final 45 minutes after taking over for Samantha Ortega, who notched three saves in the first half.

The Pirates will finally play a home match in their actual home facility -- the OCC Soccer Complex -- on friday against Pasadena City College, beginning at 5 p.m.
