Lastra's late goal lifts Pirates past Lancers

COSTA MESA -- Alexis Lastra's last-minute goal helped lift the Orange Coast College women's soccer team to an impressive 2-1 nonconference win over Pasadena City College on Friday evening inside the OCC Soccer Complex.

After 80 minutes of scoreless play, the Pirates (4-2) scored first off of corner kick by Chantelle Sanchez, who found Grace Boyce in front of the goal. The Pirate freshman used her head and banged in the first goal of the match, putting Coast up, 1-0.

But less than three minutes later, PCC (4-2) returned the favor when a corner-kick opportunity found the noggin of Kristina Snowden, who even the score in the 83rd minute of play.

What looked to end in a 1-1 draw, the Pirates shocked the highly-ranked Lancers when Olivia Hostetler found Lastra and the freshman forward buried her opportunity into the back of the net in the final minute of play, giving the Pirates a hard-fought win against a team that lost just twice in all of 2024 (19-2-2).

Coast controlled things for most of the match, outshooting the Lancers, 11-2, but Lancers' goalkeeper Gaioi Mahe notched nine saves and kept her team in the match. OCC's Layla Cash had one save to preserve the win.

OCC will travel to College of the Desert to take on the Roadrunners at Hovley Soccer Park on Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. OCC's next home match will be on Friday, Sept. 26 against Cerritos, beginning at 3 p.m.
