Pirates cruise to 4-0 win over Falcons

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team took care of business on Friday with an impressive 4-0 nonconference win over visiting Cerritos College at the OCC Soccer Complex.

A pair of goals by Chantelle Sanchez helped put the Pirates (6-2) out in front for good, while single tallies were recorded by Tess Doucette and Olivia Hostetler.

OCC got the offense going in the 21st minute when, on a corner kick, Hostetler sent the ball into the goal area, where Sanchez headed the ball past Cerritos goalkeeper Paulina Prescott to put the Pirates up, 1-0.

Just three minutes later, it was another corner-kick opportunity for the Pirates and again, it was Hostetler to Sanchez, who again, used her head to find the back of the net for a 2-0 OCC advantage. For the freshman forward, she recorded goal Nos. 6 and 7 for the season.

From there, the Pirates took control of things, controlling play in the midfield and not allowing the Falcons (2-7-1) any decent scoring opportunities.

In the 39th minute, Jocelyn Culp sent a pass over to Doucette, who buried a perfect shot into the upper corner of the goal from over 20-yards out, putting Coast up, 3-0.

Finally, in the 53rd minute, Marijana Kera helped force a Cerritos turnover and Hostetler picked up the loose ball and found the upper corner for her eighth goal of the season, giving OCC a 4-0 lead.

That would be all as the goalkeeper tandem of Layla Cash and Samantha Ortega each played a half and each helped preserve the shutout win.

Coast will kick off Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday at home against Irvine Valley College, beginning at 3 p.m.
