RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team made No. 13 lucky on Wednesday night as the Pirates improve to 13-0 with a three-set sweep over Riverside City College.
Nika Safavi had a team-best 19 kills to go along with nine digs to lead the state's No. 4-ranked Pirates (13-0, 5-0 in the OEC) to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-20 win over the host Tigers (4-12, 2-3). Joey Payan added seven kills, while Kayla Ihrig knocked down six kills and a team-high 13 digs.
Sophie Vienna dished out 31 assists, while libero Kennedy Cutler contributed with 10 digs.
Jayden Franchere had a team-best seven kills for the Tigers.
Coast, the state's lone undefeated team, returns to action on Wednesday at Golden West College, beginning at 6 p.m. OCC's next home match will take place on Friday, Oct. 10 against Cypress College, also at 6 p.m.
