Pirates roll past Hornets, Dons
COSTA MESA -- It was a dominating week of volleyball for the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team as the Pirates earned three-set sweeps over Fullerton College on Wednesday and at Santa Ana College on Friday to kick off the conference campaign.
In Wednesday's 25-4, 25-13, 25-21 win over the Hornets at OCC, Nika Safavi led the offense with 12 kills to go along with seven digs and an impressive eight aces. Kayla Ihrig added seven kills and three digs, while the setting duo of Sophie Vienna and Dezi Butler combined for 15 assists.
In Friday's 25-9, 25-17, 25-20 win at Santa Ana College, Ihrig led the way with 15 kills and seven digs, while Safavi added 13 kills and a team-best 14 digs. Vienna dished out 27 assists, while Butler added 14, while Kennedy Cutler and Emeri Lane each had eight digs.
The wins keep the state's sixth-ranked Pirates unbeaten at 10-0 overall, 2-0 in the Orange Empire Conference.
Coast will have two road matches this week, starting at Santiago Canyon College on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and at Irvine Valley on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m.
