COSTA MESA -- McKenzie Gillman led a balanced offensive attack for the Orange Coast College women's basketball team as the Pirates toppled East Los Angles College, 90-64, on Tuesday night inside the Peterson Gym.
Gillman led the Pirates (4-2) with 18 points and six rebounds, one of four OCC players in double figures. Melaiah Joseph found the hot hand from 3-point range and finished with 16 points. Andrea Rico added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Elise Marquez tossed in 10 points to go along with five assists, four rebounds and four steals.
For the Huskies (4-4), Alisson Davile and Jocelyn Garcia each had four points, while Moriah Mosley and Sarah Ramos each added 13.
Coast took control of things early, grabbing a 24-12 lead after the opening quarter, but the Huskies battled back and outscored Coast 20-14 in the second quarter to trail by six, 38-32.
But the Pirates' defense clamped down on the Huskies to the tune of 35 turnovers, while the Pirates' offense pushed the tempo in the second half and scored 52 second-half points to ELAC's 32.
Coast will return to action on Thursday at Mt. San Jacinto College, beginning at 5 p.m. OCC returns to the Peterson Gym on Tuesday against Sacramento City, beginning at 2 p.m.
