Pirates wrap up solid OEC season
COSTA MESA -- With a 35-10 record, the Orange Coast College women's golf team earned a second-place spot in the final standings for the 2024 Orange Empire Conference season.
Led by a quartet of All-OEC qualifiers, the Pirates wrapped up the regular season at the OEC Finals at Costa Mesa Country Club (Mesa Linda Course) and finished the two-day event with a 314 on Monday and a 316 on Wednesday, topped only my conference-champion, Mt. San Antonio's scores of 303 on Monday and 300 on Wednesday. Cuyamaca (318 on Monday and Wednesday) finished third on both days, followed by Fullerton (377-346) and Mt. San Jacinto (412-406).
Moe Pyae Sone Khin led the Pirates with a two-round total of 149, shooting a 5-over-par 75 on Day 1 and bettered that with a 4-over 74 on Day 2.
Jeanie Tahvildari shot a 71-79, while Delylah Collins carded an 80 and 77 for the two-day finals.
Sophia Tipton (88-86), Lillian Thurston (94-86) and Taylor Tuxford (97-97) round out the scoring for the Pirates, who earned a team spot at the Southern California Regional Finals, which will take place on Nov. 10-11 at Los Serranos Golf Club, beginning at 9:20 a.m. each day.
Khin and Tahvildari earned spots on the All-OEC's First Team for their top-6 overall averages for the 2024 season. Khin was fourth among all OEC golfers with a 75.1 average throughout all nine events, including the low round of the tournament back on Sept. 30 at El Prado, where she chared a 3-under-par 69. Tahvildari was just behind her Pirate teammate in fifth place overall with an average of 76.4 with all nine rounds in the 70s, including a 1-over-par, 71 in Round 1 of the finals on Monday.
Collins earned a second-team, All-OEC spot after finishing ninth overall with a 79.9 average, with Tipton joining her with a top-12 average of 84.4.
