Pirates pick up strong win over Mounties, 6-3

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team overcame an early doubles deficit to rally for a 6-3 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Mt. San Antonio College, on Tuesday at the OCC Tennis Complex.

The Pirates (9-7) trailed 2-1 after the opening three doubles matches, with their lone win coming in a hard-fought 8-6 victory by the duo of Josh Hennig and Jie Kashiwagi.

But things turned around for Coast in singles play, thanks to five singles wins out of six matches, including straight-set triumphs from Kaskiwagi (6-3, 6-4), Sacha Mege (6-0, 6-1), Maddox Goodman (6-1, 6-0) and Nicolas Moore (6-4, 6-2). At No. 2 singles, Hennig needed a third set to prevail, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 over Mt. SAC's Rick Sun.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at Santa Barbara City College, beginning at 2 p.m. OCC's next home contest will be on Thursday against Riverside City College, also at 2 p.m.
