Pirates impressive in 8-1 win over Hornets
FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team made it two straight over the Fullerton College Hornets after the Pirates rolled to an 8-1 Orange Empire Conference road win on Thursday.
The Pirates (8-7) battled the Hornets hard in doubles and prevailed in all three matches. Earning wins for Coast were the teams of Julian Pittl/Chris Gates (8-5), Josh Hennig/Jie Kashiwagi (8-3) and Ethan Medel/Nicolas Moore (8-5).
The fun continued for the Pirates in doubles play with Coast taking the "W" in five-of-six matches. Straight-set victories were earned by Pittl (6-3, 7-5), Hennig (6-2, 6-2), Medel (6-1, 6-1) and Maddox Goodman (6-0, 6-1). At No. 2 doubles, Kashiwagi needed a third-set tiebreaker to earn the win, 4-6, 7-6 (1), 10-4.
With the win, the Pirates remain in third place in the OEC at 3-2, trailing unbeaten Irvine Valley (5-0) and second-place Riverside (3-1).
Coast returns to the OCC Tennis Complex on Tuesday against Mt. San Antonio, beginning at 2 p.m.
