Double shutout for OCC Soccer

It was a very productive day of soccer for the Orange Coast College Pirates as the men's and women's teams cruised to shutout victories over Fullerton College on Tuesday. The OCC men topped the Hornets, 5-0, at Fullerton College, while the OCC women played under the LeBard Stadium lights and blanked FC, 7-0.

On the men's side, five different players -- Chase Nugent, Antonio Gonzalez, Baji Chela, Takuma Hori and Dong-Gi Shin -- scored goals for the Pirates (7-6, 3-4 in Orange Empire Conference). Assists were dished out by Gonzalez (three), Nugent and Patrik Haley. In goal, Tyler Folkins notched four saves for the shutout win.

On the women's side, Jessica Amaral and Emma Pridmore each scored twice to lead the Pirates (9-3-2, 7-2-1), while Kiley Leshin, Natalie Seroka and Brooke Springer each added one goal. Assists were earned by Amaral (two), Leshin (two), Nicole Vanderlaan (two) and Lauren Zepeda. Goalkeeper Katie O'Banion notched three saves for the Pirates, who earned some payback after losing to the Hornets, 1-0, in the first round of OEC play.

The OCC women will return to action on Friday at home against first-place Santiago Canyon, beginning at 3 p.m. The Pirate men will be back in action on Tuesday against Riverside, beginning at 3 p.m., also at the OCC Soccer Complex.
