Pirates roll past San Diego Mesa, 6-1
COSTA MESA -- The back of the net saw a ton of action as the Orange Coast College men's soccer team rolled past visiting San Diego Mesa, 6-1, in a nonconference matchup played at the OCC Soccer Complex on Wednesday.
Baji Chela had a goal and two assists, while Dong-Gi Shin added a pair of goals to lead the Pirates (2-1). Antonio Gonzalez set up the offense all afternoon and finished with three assists, while solo tallies were provided by Matthew Stickler, Jesus Estrada and Takuma Hori.
The fun began in the game's 12th minute when Gonzalez send a long pass to Stickler, who flicked a shot with his head past charging Olympians' goalkeeper Michael Leffew, putting Coast up for good.
Less than a minute later, Gonzalez was at it again, this time, sending a cross-pass from the left onto the noggin of Chela, who buried the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
James San Roman ripped a deflected pass in mid-air past everyone in the 23rd minute for Mesa, making it 2-1, but that is as close as the Olympians would get the rest of the afternoon.
Just eight minutes later, a nice defensive move by the Pirates helped give Gonzalez his third assist of the game as he fed a wide-open Estrada for Coast's third goal and nine minutes later, Shin put the game out of reach when he scored off a rebounded shot by Chela to make it 4-1.
Coast tacked on a pair of goals in the second half by Hori and Shin as OCC outshot the Olympians, 20-9 in the contest.
Pirate goalkeeper Tyler Folkins picked up four saves to earn the win.
