Pirates come up empty is loss to Rustlers

COSTA MESA -- The playoff hopes for the Orange Coast College men's soccer team took a sour turn on Tuesday as the Pirates fell to visiting Golden West College, 2-0, in a crucial Orange Empire Conference matchup.

The loss drops the Pirates to 12-7 overall, 8-5 in the OEC, while the win sends the Rustlers (10-5-3, 8-3-2) ahead of OCC for third place in the conference standings.

An early strong start by the Pirates was wiped away in the 18th minute, when Eddie Arellano chipped a pass over to Rustler teammate Jimmy Amador, who knocked a header into the back of the net.

It remained 1-0 for most of the match, despite some decent scoring opportunities for both sides. Finally, in the 87th minute, the Rustlers took used a late breakaway opportunity to add the clinching goal.
