Pirates win eighth straight following 6-3 win over Vaqueros
GLENDALE -- It was a hard-fought win for the Orange Coast College women's tennis team as the Pirates pulled out a 6-3 nonconference victory at Glendale College on Friday afternoon.
The win -- OCC's eighth straight to start the 2026 season (8-0), had three wins pushed to a much tougher decision. At No. 6 doubles, Amanda Montanez needed a third set before topping her Vaquero opponent, winning, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Minami Saito (6-3, 6-1), Chantel Kamel (6-4, 6-3) and Mebuki Kitakuni (6-2, 6-3) earned straight-set singles for the Pirates.
In doubles, Kitakuni and Kamel needed a tiebreaker before holding off GC's No. 1 squad, 9-8. Also at No. 3, Talia Saharyildizi and Terry Saharyildizi outlasted their Vaquero counterparts at No. 3 doubles to pick up an 8-5 win.
Coast will return to action on Tuesday inside the OCC Tennis Complex as they host Mt. San Antonio on Tuesday, beginning at 2 p.m.
