Pirates improve to 10-0 with another strong week
COSTA MESA -- A pair of matches, a pair of wins (again) for the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team as the Pirates earned a pair of three-set wins this past week to improve to 10-0 for the season.
The Pirates kicked off play this week on Wednesday night inside the Peterson Gym and came out with a 25-14, 25-9, 25-17 win over visiting Antelope Valley College. OCC's Dylan Mister led the Pirate attack with seven kills (no hitting errors) and a .700 hitting percentage, while Seth Sainz added five kills, with Tommy Saunders and Quentin Ryan each throwing down four kills. Setters Jeff Reyes and Kaden Wong combined for 24 assists, while Reyes and Aiden Fisher combined for 11 of OCC's 20 team digs.
On Friday, Coast heading up the 101 Freeway and took on L.A. Pierce College, where the Pirates rolled to a 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 win over the host Brahmas.
Ben Bray and Ashtonn Florentin each had 11 kills, while Sainz added seven kills. Keagin Christenson and Mason Grubbs combined for 25 assists, while Grubbs anchored the Pirate defense with a team-best five digs. Florentin also came out strong with five service aces as well as four total blocks.
The Pirates will now begin conference play as they take on San Diego Mesa (at Mesa College) on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m. OCC's next home match will take place on Friday against Miramar College, also at 6 p.m.
