Pirates finish seventh overall at State Championships

SEASIDE -- The Orange Coast College men's golf returned to the "big dance" this year and finished seventh in the state after two challenging rounds at the 2025 3C2A Men's Golf State Championships on Sunday and Monday at the Bayonet Golf Club, par-72.

Located up in Monterey County and along the coastline, the beautiful course showed its teeth, not only at the Pirate golfers, but at the rest of the state's best of the best. In fact, only two golfers managed to break par in one round each throughout the entire 36-hole, 68-golfer event.

"It definitely was a tough test for everyone out there," OCC head coach Sean Collins said. "Lots of wind, chilly temperatures and on Day 2, we even had to deal with some rain ... and ... on a very tough golf course. But, no matter what, our guys battled their hearts out both days and that's all any coach can ask of his players. It's been a great year and I couldn't be more proud of them."

The Pirates finished the tournament seventh overall with a team score of 798. College of the Canyons repeated as state champs after a two-day team score of 762, followed by Reedley (765), San Joaquin Delta (784), Santa Barbara (785), Ventura (788) and College of the Desert (790).

A pair of Pirates -- Troy Tarvin and Matt Ingram -- earned All-State honors by finishing in the top-6 among all golfers in the field. Tarvin opened things with a 3-over-par 75 and followed that up with a 4-over-par, 76 for a two-day total of 151. Ingram finished sixth in the state with a 78-74-152. COC's Carson Diaz (73-75) was the individual state champion after beating Reedley's Tommy Evans (70-78) in a one-hole playoff after both golfers shot 148 for their two-day totals.

Other OCC scores for the state finals included Tate Garman (81-82-163), Victor Chaparro (76-86-164), Tyler Chapman (83-85-168) and Nate Rhee (83-87-170).

The 2025 season comes to an end for the Pirates, a season that saw them go 75-13 for the season and win the Orange Empire Conference championship, followed by a solid four-place showing at the Southern California Regionals that earned Coast a berth in the state finals for the first time since 2018.
