Pirates falter late to Bobcats

COSTA MESA -- The shorthanded Orange Coast College men's basketball team saw the gas tank reach "E" down the stretch as the Pirates fell to visiting Saddleback College, 77-59, inside the Peterson Gym in an Orange Empire Conference matchup on Wednesday night.

Playing without some key players, the Pirates gave the Bobcats a sturdy challenge throughout the first half through most of the second half before Saddleback wore the hosts down over the final 10 minutes of play.

Coast was within double figures and trailed only by five (46-41) with 12:24 remaining before a 24-10 Bobcat run over the next eight minutes secured victory for the guests.

Jay Fromm had a solid night for the Pirates with 19 points and six rebounds, hitting 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from free-throw line. Zach Moloian and Jayden Baude each added nine points, while Kaz Hampton tossed in seven points.

For the Bobcats, Charlie Stallings and Jacob Simon each had 16 points, while Malachi Hiers added 15 points.

Coast will kick off the second half of OEC play on the road for the first two games, beginning with Riverside on Friday, beginning at 5 p.m. at RCC.
