COSTA MESA -- The 2025-26 season is now underway for the Orange Coast College men's basketball team and the Pirates are still trying to find their way following Thursday night's 79-51 nonconference loss to L.A. Harbor College in the Pirates home opener.
It was a ragged night for both teams ... as the combined 45 fouls and 44 turnovers would indicate. But in the end, the Seahawks (1-2) were able to get to their game faster than the Pirates (0-4) did and the result was a 52.6% shooting night for LAHC (30-of-57), compared to 30% for the Pirates (18-of-60).
Chris Obiajulu led Coast with 14 points and five rebounds for OCC. Logan Barbee added nine points, four rebounds and five assists, while Prince Odimegwu and Kaz Hamption each added six points.
For the Seahawks, Max Choi led the way with 15 points. Nate Guevara tossed in 13 points, while Amire Jones added 12.
L.A. Harbor jumped out early and led by as many as 12 late in the first half, but back-to-back baskets by Hampton and Logan Barbee trimmed the deficit to eight at the half, 30-22.
But a 9-1 run over the first four minutes of the second half for the Seahawks doubled the lead to 16 and from there, the Pirates couldn't find a way back into the game.
The Pirates will return to the Peterson Gym on Thursday against Miramar College, beginning at 5 p.m.
