Pirates find a way in 12-11 win over Rustlers

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Kael Corridan's clutch two-runs single in the top of the seventh inning proved to be the difference-maker for the Orange Coast College baseball to rallied for a 12-11 Orange Empire Conference win at Golden West College on Saturday at Fred Hoover Field.

In a series that wasn't going right for the Pirates all week, had a happy ending in the series finale as Coast pounded out 12 runs on 14 hits and picked up a huge relief performance from Gavin Partch to secure the win.

Partch was the difference-maker down the stretch, holding the high-scoring Rustlers (18-10, 6-3 in the OEC) scoreless over 3 2/3 innings on three hits, walking two and striking out two.

Things got dicey for the Pirates in the bottom of the ninth as the Rustlers loaded the bases with one out, but relief pitcher Keith Aguilar earned his third save, retiring two of the batters he faced to close things out.

With the game tied at 10 in the top of the seventh, a pair of walks and a pair of stolen bases put OCC runners on second and third with two outs. Corridan came through with his two-run singe that scored Andrew Chorbagian and Tyler Covington, putting Coast ahead, 12-10.

Gibson Rath had a big game at the plate for the Pirates, going 4-for-5 with a run scored. Corridan went 2-for-5 with a run and three RBI, while Flynn Parks added a three-run double to the box score. Covington went 2-for-3 with four runs scored and an RBI.

Coast will kick off a three-game series with Saddleback College on Tuesday, at Saddleback, beginning at 2 p.m. OCC's next home takes place on Thursday against the Bobcats, beginning at 1 p.m.
