More late-inning heroics for Pirates in win over Tigers
RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College baseball team is finally getting some mojo going in their direction as the Pirates pulled out another late-inning game on Tuesday with a 5-4 victory over Riverside City College.
Trailing 4-2 in the top of the ninth, Coast continued to fight as Gyubeen Kim singled with one out and scored off of double and error off the bat of Mikey Hanano.
Two batters later, with the Pirates down to their final out, Andrew Chorbagian doubled to right-center to scoring pinch-runner Josh Mizoguchi with the tying run.
Chris Ouellette stepped up and proved to be the Pirate hero as he singled to center field, scoring Chorbagian with the eventual winning run.
Of course, the Pirates couldn't just win a game without making it a nightmare for themselves in the bottom half of the ninth as the Tigers loaded the bases with only one out.
Relief pitcher Randy Limon (4-5), who came in and held the Tigers in check in the eighth inning, needed to battle out of this jam in the ninth and the freshman righty did just that, inducing a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat and end the game.
Ouellette finished the game 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI, while Chorbagian added two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Game two of this three-game series takes place on Thursday at OCC's John Altobelli Park, beginning at 2 p.m.
