Pirates returning to competition this spring
After a full year away from competition, there will be sports once again at Orange Coast College for the final three months of the spring 2021 semester, according to OCC Athletic Director Jason Kehler.
"Since November, we've had teams on campus preparing for a return to competition, following a phased return play that is in adherence with federal, state, local and campus guidelines," Kehler said. "The Athletic Department implemented a number of measures aimed to keep students, faculty and staff safe while on campus. This includes physical distancing, mask wearing, and maintaining proper hygiene."
While the Pirates are excited to take this tremendous step towards returning to competition, the school knows that "normal" is still a long ways away. With that in mind, the school will be enforcing a "fan-free" environment for our contests and practices throughout the spring semester.
"Teams are following a testing protocol consistent with, and more stringent than, the California Department of Public Health COVID-19 Industry Guidance for Institutions of Higher Education," Kehler said. "Following the above state guidelines, spectators are not permitted at contests."
The school's athletics website, www.occpirateathletics.com, will have all of the latest information on our upcoming sporting contests. If there are any live streaming events this spring, they will be located there, as well as on our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). We apologize for the inability to attend our games this spring, but the safety of our athletes, coaches and support staff are our top priority.
