Pirates edged by Hornets, 1-0

COSTA MESA -- In a match that didn't see a lot of scoring opportunities on either end of the field, Fullerton College took advantage and cashed in a 1-0 win over the Orange Coast College men's soccer team on Tuesday night inside LeBard Stadium.

It was a game that was controlled in the midfield for both teams as the Hornets (3-6-5, 2-2-3 in the Orange Empire Conference) used a costly OCC turnover and turned it into the night's lone goal, scored by Josiahs Palacios, off an assist from Cisco Torres.

The Pirates had their golden opportunity for a goal when Tai Khoshkbariie split the Hornet defense and was coming down for point-blank scoring opportunity when he was taken down by a Fullerton defender. No foul was called and play resumed and that opportunity proved to be the best of the night for Coast to even the contest.

Strong, all-around play was turned in by the Pirates for the full 90 minutes, as Fullerton was held to just three shots on frame for the entire night. Cesar Pedroza tended goal for the first half before Kotaro Kobayashi took over for the second half and each keeper earned one save.

Fullerton's Steven Martinez preserved the shutout with five saves.

Coast will return to action on Friday at the OCC Soccer Complex against Irvine Valley, beginning at 3 p.m.
