Pirates earn spot at SoCal Regionals
VICTORVILLE -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team needed a solid, final-round performance and the Pirates found that magic during the final 18 holes of the 36-hole Orange Empire Conference Championships on Monday at Bear Valley Country Club.
An up-and-down season for the Pirates saw them out of position for the final postseason spot by one win, but Coast regrouped and carded a final-round team score of 307, earning OCC (27-43) fourth place in that final round, two wins higher than the team they were chasing, Cuyamaca College (26-44), who shot a 316 for the final round.
Coast finished the 2026 regular season in the fifth and final playoff spot, giving the Pirates an invitation to next week's Southern California Regionals, which will take place on Monday at Olivas Links in Ventura for 36 more holes.
One of the big highlights for the Pirates for Round 2 came from Brendan Barker, who shot an opening-round 82, only to follow it up with a 2-over-par, 74 in the afternoon to pace OCC's rally.
Nic Borelli paced the Pirates with two steady rounds of 76-76. Nico Flemer came through with rounds of 79 and 76. Other top OCC scores include Nate Beckner (76-81), Giovanni Fontana (80-87) and Yuto Tsukui (84-82).
