Pirates blank Olympians, West Valley at Ventura tourney
VENTURA -- It was well worth the drive for the Orange Coast College women's soccer team, thanks to a 5-0 win over West Valley on Friday, completing a two-match sweep at the Ventura Tournament.
There were plenty of offensive standouts for Coast, but leading the way on Friday was sophomore midfielder Sarah MacArthur, who had two goals and an assist. Single goals were turned in by Emma Pridmore, Kiley Leshin and Kelsey McKay. Assists were contributed by Pridmore, Jessica Amaral, Cindy Rubio and Courtney Garrity.
Kate O'Banion and Emily Harrier each played a half for Coast (2-0) and each posted one save in the shutout win.
OCC 3, San Diego Mesa 0 -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team started the 2012 season with an impressive win over San Diego Mesa in the opening day of the Ventura College Tournament on Thursday.
Jessica Amaral scored two goals to lead the Pirates, while teammate Kiley Leshin added a single goal. Emma Pridmore contributed two assists, while Cindy Rubio added a helper of her own.
In goal, sophomore keeper Kate O'Banion picked up her first shutout with a three-save performance.
