Pirates finished third at OEC Meet

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's swim team hosted the rest of the Orange Empire Conference on Friday at the OCC Swim Pavilion, with the Pirates earning a third-place team spot with 526 points, trailing only Riverside City College (786) and Golden West (587.5).

Finishing behind the Pirates included Cypress (426.5), Saddleback (234) and Fullerton (22).

OCC's Jun Caruso dominated the field in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall first with a time of 1:58.36, over 8 seconds ahead of runner-up Bryce Hitter (RCC), who placed second at 2:06.51.

It was a 1-3 finish for the Pirates in the 100 butterfly, with Kaua Mota earning first place with a time of 50.98. OCC teammate, Oscar Cruz took third with a solid time of 53.07.

It was another no-doubter for the Pirates in the 200 backstroke as Merrik Riddle cruised to the wall with a winning time of 2:06.92, nearly five seconds ahead of runner-up Jack Wright (GWC) who timed in at 2:11.48.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday, April 3 at the OCC Invitational, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
