Pirates take third overall at GWC Invitational
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's swim team earned a third-place team result at the Golden West College Invitational on Friday at GWC.
The Pirates finished the invitational with a team score of 422 points, trailing only host GWC (606) and Riverside (582). El Camino finished fourth overall with 364 points, followed by Southwestern (251), Palomar (190), Miramar (159), Grossmont (134), Crafton Hills (118), Rio Hondo (83) and Fullerton (49).
OCC standout Kaua Mota was a part of three first-place performances for the Pirates, taking the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly (41.19 seconds) as well as the 50 freestyle (22.02). Mota also joined Jackson Williams, Dylan Knox and Jun Caruso for OCC's victorious 200 medley relay with a time of 1:29.72. Mota also earned a third-place time in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.12.
Three other medley teams for Coast earned second place marks, including the 200 medley relay (1:37.64), 400 medley relay (3:37.91) and the 400 free relay (3:16.6).
Caruso earned a pair of runner-up marks in the 100 backstroke (57.29) as well as the 100 breaststroke (1:00.17).
Knox finished third overall in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 29.96, while Williams placed third in the 100 backstroke (57.37).
The Pirates will return to action on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Saddleback College for the Orange Empire Conference Invitational.
