Trinidad's late free throws lift Pirates past Dons, 71-69

SANTA ANA -- Jo Jo Trinidad's two made free throws with one second remaining in the game helped give the Orange Coast College men's basketball team a 71-69 Orange Empire Conference road win against Santa Ana on Friday night.

Leading for most of the game, Orange Coast (8-16, 3-5 in OEC) watched the Dons (8-14, 2-7) climb back into the game and with 19 seconds left, a three-point play by Kevin Ramirez tied things up at 69. Following an OCC timeout, Santa Ana was charged with a foul on Trinidad just before the clock expired, and, in a game where both teams combined to shoot 64 shots from the charity stripe, it was a fitting way to cap off the scoring for both teams.

Trinidad and Jason Payne each led OCC with 17 points. Kashif Williams led SAC with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Kacy Barlow added 18 points and eight boards.

Beyond the arc was the difference in the game as OCC connected on 10-of-28 3-point attempts, while the Dons went an icy 0-for-12.

The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at home against Irvine Valley, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
