Pirates women finish third overall at Coast Classic

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's track and field team used a win and five top-three finishes to take third place overall at the 2019 Coast Classic Invitational on Friday at the newly-named Jim McIlwain Track and Field Complex.

OCC finished with 96 points overall, trailing only Saddleback (127) and Long Beach City (102) in the 10-team field.

Distance standout Meagan Silves dominated her field in the 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line all alone with a time of 11 minutes, 14.09 seconds. Silves was over 16 seconds ahead of the field, with Glendale's Phoebe Forsyth taking second with a time of 11:30.81.

Paige Fults earned an individual top-three performance, taking second in the 400 with a time of 1:01.85. She also joined Isabella Alston, Katherine Ngo and Charlotte Kraushaar in the 400 relay and helped the Pirates finish third with a time of 52.14.

In the javelin, former Pirate women's basketball standout, Raelynn Denson notched a solid second-place throw of 95-feet, 8-inches, while in the triple jump, Julie Mariano placed third overall with a jump of 32-5.

OCC will next head up to El Camino College for the ECC Invitational on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
