Pirates place sixth at SD Mesa race
SAN DIEGO -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country team headed down to San Diego and finished sixth overall at the Manny Bautista XC Invitational, hosted by San Diego Mesa College, on Friday.
The Pirates was among the top grouping of teams in the 27-school field and finished with 176 points, behind only Central Arizona (45), Mt. San Antonio (72), San Diego Mesa (73), Cerritos (105) and Riverside (135). Saddleback was a distant seventh with 251 points, followed by Chaffey (273), Fullerton (295) and Long Beach (337) among the top 10 schools in the race.
OCC sophomore Jimmy Dominguez earned a top-10 spot out of 223 competing, conquering the four-mile course with a ninth-place finishing time of 20 minutes, 39.5 seconds.
A pair of Pirates earned top-50 spots at the finish line, including Caden Guardino (36th, 21:20.20) and Lance Copp (46th, 21:32.6).
Other top OCC times were turned in by Moises Bailon (21:37.5), William Dang (22:02.6), Chance Callinan (22:03), Nathan Garcia (22:07.7), Farhaan Safi (22:30.6), Peter Cao (23:21.8) and Andres Guillen (23:27.9).
Coast will return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Cal State Fullerton Inviational, beginning at 5 p.m.
