Pirate men finish fifth at SoCal Finals

CERRITOS -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team took on the best Southern California had to offer and in the end, the Pirates finished fifth overall with a team score of 33 points at this year's Southern California Regional Finals on Friday at Cerritos College.

Four OCC guys -- Brendan Clark, Tad Desembrana, Jimmy Dominguez and Joseph Horton -- will be representing the Pirates at this weekend's 3C2A Men's Track and Field State Finals, hosted by Saddleback College, this Friday and Saturday.

Desembrana competed in the hammer throw and earned a fourth-place result with a throw of 155-feet, 11-inches.

Dominguez -- OCC's distance runner specialist -- definitely earned some rest after competing in both the 5,000 AND 10,000 meters. He finished fourth in the 10K with a time of 32:07.7 and fifth in the 5K with a 15:13.39, earning a state finals appearance in both events.

Clark took on SoCal's best in the javelin and finished sixth overall, qualifying for state with a throw of 174-5.

Another 6th-place performance for the Pirates came in the shot put, where Horton earned a spot in Mission Viejo with a throw of 45-10.
