Plenty of postseason action coming up for the Pirates
COSTA MESA -- Fresh off of the heels of the school's first-ever women's golf state championship, the majority of the fall sports at Orange Coast College are looking to keep the success flowing in 2025.
- CROSS COUNTRY -- The Pirates' men's and women's teams have been setting the pace all season long and their hard work has earned both teams into this weekend's 3C2A Cross Country State Championships, set for Saturday at Fresno's Woodward Park. On the women's side, this year has been led by OCC freshman standout Jocelyn Alba, who won the Orange Empire Conference title and helped the Pirates to the OEC team title as well. After a second-place team finish at the SoCal Regionals, Coast looks for another strong performance on Saturday at 10 a.m. For the OCC men, freshman Bernie Enriquez and his Pirate teammates finished second in conference and 10th at SoCal Regionals and will battle with the best teams in the state on Saturday at 11 a.m.
- WATER POLO -- Coast hit the "daily double" in this sport as well, with both teams qualifying for this weekend's 3C2A Water Polo State Championships, hosted by Merced College, starting on Thursday. On the men's side, the Pirates advanced all the way to the Southern California Regional finals with wins over Cypress (15-10) and Long Beach (8-6) before falling to rival, Golden West in the championship game. The guys will open State Tournament play on Thursday against Sierra College, beginning at 9:15 a.m. On the women's side, Coast earned a third-place spot in the finals, with wins over Cuesta (forfeit), a loss to Santa Barbara (12-6) and a third-place win over Riverside (14-8). Coast will take on American River on Thursday, beginning at 4:45 p.m.
- WOMEN'S SOCCER -- The OCC women's soccer program continues its magical 2025 season with a second-round playoff matchup on Saturday. The 8th-seeded Pirates (14-5-3) will play the winner of the opening-round match between No. 9 Chaffey (9-5-4) and No. 24 College of the Desert (7-7-5). As of this writing, time and location (OCC Soccer Complex or OCC's LeBard Stadium) are still to be determined. Updates to come! Congrats to Chantelle Sanchez, who was named Orange Empire Conference Co-MVP for her outstanding play this year. Sanchez finished the regular season with 18 goals (fifth-best in the entire state), while first-team honors went to Jazmeen Serratos, Olivia Hostetler and Kenzie Marker.
- WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL -- The undefeated OCC Pirate women's volleyball programs (25-0) -- champions of the Orange Empire Conference for the second year in a row -- earned the No. 3 seed for the Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host the opening-round winner between Long Beach and Saddleback on Tuesday, Nov. 25, beginning at 6 p.m. Led by the 1-2 punch of Nika Safavi (393 kills, 255 digs) and Kayla Ihrig (275 kills, 198 digs), setter Sophie Vienna (783 assists, 179 digs) and Kennedy Cutler (225 digs), the sky is the limit for this Pirate program searching for their first state championship since 2009.
