Bio
Gone, but not forgotten … Orange Coast College is proud to induct Larry “Spider” Nissen into this year’s Hall of Fame Class of 2023. Nissen was a standout wrestler for the Pirates during the 1962 and 1963 seasons. During his two years at OCC, Nissen was a winner, plain and simple. He won 43 consecutive wrestling matches and captured back-to-back state championships in two different weight classes over his tenure at Coast. Nissen competed in the 123-pound weight division as a freshman and moved up to the 130-pound class as a sophomore. Nissen was twice the Eastern Conference champion, twice he won the prestigious Cal Poly Invitational and the UCLA Invitational and in 1963, he was named OCC’s Male Athlete of the Year, becoming the first OCC wrestler to win the award. Nissen was the only two-time state champion in OCC wrestling, joining solo state champions Jeff Noon (1974), Jim Hodge (1966) and Ken Roberts (1959).
