Bio
Orange Coast College quarterback Billy White was larger than life for the Pirates in 1962 and 1963, guiding his team to a national championship in the Junior Rose Bowl. Blessed with speed, tenacity, and the size of 5-foot-4 inches tall in cleats and 134 pounds soaking wet, White was a sparkplug on a Pirate team that outscored its opponents 330–43 in 1963, with White anchoring both sides of the ball.
Coast’s strong play earned White all-conference and All-American honors for the Pirate offense. His play helped the Pirates finish a perfect 10–0 season with a 21–0 win over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at the Junior Rose Bowl. In the championship game, White got the Pirates all the offense they would need by throwing for 115 yards and a touchdown on 8-of-14 passing. Despite the modest numbers, his all-around play earned him the Junior Rose Bowl MVP.
As a freshman, White earned All-Eastern Conference honors while guiding the Pirates to a 9–1 record and a win over Glendale in the Orange Show Bowl in San Bernardino. In addition to his standout football play, White also excelled on the diamond and was a two-year starter for the Pirates’ baseball team. White was named OCC’s Athlete of the Year for 1963–64.
