Six Pirates earn scholar-athlete honors

COSTA MESA -- Six Orange Coast College football players showed their strengths weren't just on the playing field as they earned themselves a spot on the 2011 Southern California Football Association's Scholar-Athlete Team.
 
Sophomores Derrick Romo (3.51 grade-point average), Alec Davis (3.49 GPA), Bill Chimphalee (3.27 GPA), Juan Garces (3.04 GPA), Kyle Donaldson (3.13 GPA) and Steven Hauptmann (3.22 GPA) were selected on this year's Scholar-Athlete Team for their outstanding performances both on the football field and in the classrooms.
 
To qualify for a spot on the Scholar-Athlete Team, a football player must complete the following criteria ...
 
1. Participation as an active member of a SCFA football team, with two seasons of
participation at the collegiate level, or until forced out of competition by seasonending
injury.

2. Successful completion of a minimum 36 units-27 of which must be in academic (non-
PE or sport activity) courses.

3. Achievement of a minimum 3.0 (B) grade point average
