With over 25 years of coaching experience, John Knox returns to run the men's and women's track program for his 14th overall season at Orange Coast.

During his time at OCC, the Pirate track and cross country programs have been among the best in all of California community colleges.

As the track and field skipper, Knox has guided the Pirates to eight Orange Empire Conference championships and has helped coach over a dozen individual state champions. Also, more than a dozen school records have been broken during Knox's tenure.

In his two years as Coast's head cross country coach, Knox helped guide the Pirates to three state titles -- the OCC women (2002 and 2003) and the OCC men (2003).

Orange Coast has been a longtime home to Knox, both as a coach and as an athlete. In 1981, Knox finished fifth in the State Meet and set a then-school record in the decathlon.

After earning his Bachelor's degree at Long Beach State and his Master's degree at Azusa Pacific, Knox began his coaching career at Edison High School, where he stayed for four years before a 10-year run at Century HS and one year at Santa Ana College.

"Coaching and teaching at OCC has been a dream for me since being a student-athlete at Coast in the early '80s," Knox said.

John and his wife Lisa live in Huntington Beach and they have two daughters, MacKenzie and Taylor.
