One of the most well-named coaches throughout Orange County, longtime high school coach Ron La Ruffa joins the OCC coaching staff for his second season.
La Ruffa has been the head coach at Fountain Valley High School and Edison High School for the past 28 years. Over that span, La Ruffa won 546 games, 11 Sunset League titles, four trips to the CIF Southern Section finals (1989, 1994, 1995, 1996) and two CIF titles (1994, 1995).
Ten times during his coaching tenure, La Ruffa was named Sunset League Coach of the Year and in 1994 and again in 1995, he was named CIF Coach of the Year. In all, the Pirates have added a coach with 42 years of coaching experience, both at the prep and collegiate level.
As a player, La Ruffa played at Long Beach State, where helped lead the 49ers to a pair of PCAA championships.
La Ruffa will be in handling the OCC pitching staff this year.
Ron and his wife, Nancy, live in Fountain Valley, where he enjoys playing golf, reading traveling and spending time with his daughter, Jennifer (32) and his son, Brian (35).
